EVALUATIONS AND BEGINNING STEPS
OVERVIEW
When first working with a student and prior to giving instruction, I evaluate and document specific areas. Until I have an understanding of how a student swings and what approach to hitting she uses, I cannot begin to set goals or adjust her swing. I do this in two stages.

STAGE 1: EVALUATION
The evaluation stage gives me an overview of how the student currently swings, where the student’s skill levels are in general, and what instruction she has had. I also look at positioning, bat speed, balance, and basic skills. With this data, I can begin to plan how to teach the student and set my priorities.

Stage 2: BASIC STEPS
Once I have an idea of the student’s skill level and where I want to start teaching, I break my analysis into basic steps. These steps are areas that I can classify, like which components of a swing will help me plan the goals, and which areas might need to be addressed first. As we start our lessons, I document each of these steps with video to help identify changes with a swing.
