FINISH THE SWING
FINISH THE SWING
I have observed hitters who seem to slow their bats down after contact. I am not sure if this is a learned skill or a habit, but it interferes with the idea that a swing should be full speed. I often tell my students to finish their swing and let the bat continue through as far as it can go.

AFTER THE CONTACT POINT THE SWING DOES NOT END
Once contact with the ball is made, the swing is still going. I like to teach my students that to complete a swing they need to practice the finish of the swing. This includes allowing the hips to finish rotating and the bat to wrap around the hitter. Example

HIPS ROTATE THROUGH THE FINISH
I work with my students to allow their hips to go through the swing, with the back foot rotating on the ball of the foot. This back foot should still have weight on it and I like to see the foot in line with the back leg. Example

BAT WRAPS AROUND THE BODY
I consider the bat wrapping around the body to be a natural part of the swing. I stress this if a student is stopping the bat short. I also keep an eye on the angle of the bat at the end of a swing. This can be an indicator of hands dropping and of the position of the back shoulder. Example
