HANDS TO THE BALL

HANDS TO THE BALL
Because I teach my students to keep their hands close to their bodies at the beginning of their swing (hands inside the ball), there comes a time when I want students to extend their arms. I use the term “Hands to the ball.” This term explains the action that allows the hands to go toward the ball and create the arc of the swing.Example

HAND PATH
After the initial move with the hands, the path angles out to allow the arms to extend. When looking at an illustration of the hand path, you will see an arc created by this action. Example I will keep an eye on this to reduce the tendency to cast out too early or too far.

HANDS AT THE POINT OF CONTACT
I teach my students to look down their arms to their hands, and that the bat should be part of all this on contact. Example I watch closely to make sure that if the eyes are tracking the ball, the hands meet the tracking at the point of contact. Many times when I am working on a contact issue with a student, this is where we find the solution.
